MAY 2013 SPOTLIGHT: MOCK TRIAL AND PJAS SUCCESS

MOCK TRIAL

The Quigley Catholic mock trial team of Kaye Burnet, J.J. Hrechun, Nick Core, Shelby Wasil, Jarek Ingros, Anthony Kuntz, George Burnet, and T.J. Belsterling represented Pennsylvania in the National Mock Trial Championship in Indianapolis on Friday May 10th and Saturday May 11th. The team is coached by Tim Waxenfelter and the attorney advisor is Ahmed Aziz. The case involved a claim by Vintage Theater Productions that Pro Propane Products delivered a faulty propane tank which exploded and destroyed the theater and a replica of the Wasp, the 1911 wining Indy car, which had been rented by the theater for its opening production. The propane company claimed that the theater company failed to adhere to the propane company’s written warnings, and that a theatre employee opened the propane tank by hitting the control valve with a wrench.

Quigley Catholic, finishing 16th of the 46 teams in the competition. Quigley defeated Maine and Ohio by 3-0 scores, and lost to Massachusetts and Colorado by 2-1 scores. Special congratulations to Kaye Burnet for earning a top 10 attorney award.


PJAS
